Main purpose of this role
Reporting to, and working with, the Dispensing Services Manager you will be responsible for ensuring that all areas are adequately staffed and that all the staff are appropriately trained. In addition you will assist in the introduction of a Professional Development programme for both the technicians and assistants
Key Responsibilities
- To undertake dispensing duties, under the supervision of a pharmacist, for the supply of medicinal products to homecare patients.
- To coordinate the work of the Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians in the dispensing service.
- To liaise with the Dispensing Services Manager to ensure efficient use of resources across the different dispensing sections.
- To develop, along with the Dispensing Services Manager, a programme of ‘Continuing Professional Development’ for the Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians.
- To work closely with patient services to ensure that patient’s requirements regarding the supply of their medication are met.
- To collate the information and produce reports required by the Dispensing Services Manager.
- To liaise with the clinical teams at customer hospitals and clinics to determine the exact requirements of the prescriptions. To develop and implement systems to ensure that these are met.
- To prepare and maintain, in conjunction with the other technicians and pharmacists, a complete and up to date series of SOPs for the dispensing processes.
- To carry out other associated professional duties as required, including the input of specialist knowledge into the development of new business opportunities.
- To maintain a satisfactory awareness of current trends on pharmaceutical issues and be committed to continuing professional development sufficient for the purposes of maintaining registration and as appropriate for a senior practitioner.
- To undergo a personal appraisal and PDP process annually with appropriate reviews throughout the year.
- To contribute to the effectiveness of the department by putting forward suggestions for innovation and development of pharmacy services in general.

Requirements
- Should be, or be able to become, registered with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain as a Pharmacy Technician
- Successfully completed a nationally recognised course for Pharmacy Technicians.
- Experience or knowledge of aseptic compounding and homecare would be an advantage.
