Role Objective:

 

  • To manage the operations of the registered pharmacy, including sale and supply of medicinal products in a professional, effective and economic way and in accordance with current regulations and guidance.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • To help develop all aspects of the business to their full potential including dispensing on behalf of the Trust, developing new services for the Trust, dispensing prescriptions from outside of the Trust, developing services with the PCT and other bodies, developing retail sales.
  • To oversee the dispensing and supply of medicinal products in compliance with the requirement of the Medicines Act, “Medicines, Ethics and Practice Guide” published by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, Guide to Good Distribution Practice and Company Standard Operating Procedures.
  • To pro-actively liaise with prescribers and other Trust staff to improve and develop the service offered to patients and customers.
  • To participate in the training and development programme for the Pharmacy team.
  • To ensure prescriptions are endorsed accurately to maximise payments.
  • To order stock with suppliers accurately and effectively. To ensure that supplies of stock are checked accurately and deliveries put to shelf in accordance with Company procedures. To ensure stock is booked into the stock control system accurately.
  • To rotate stock, check dates and ensure that stock nearing expiry is removed from use and disposed of in accordance with Company procedures.
  • To ensure that over the counter medicines are sold in accordance with sale of medicines protocols, manufacturer’s guidelines and pharmacist guidance.
  • To ensure that records of the Responsible Pharmacist are maintained as legally required. To undertake the role of Responsible Pharmacist when required.
  • To ensure that all prescriptions are approved by a Pharmacist as part of the dispensing process.
  • To perform final checking of dispensed items.
  • To professionally oversee the operation of the department to ensure compliance to the standards and maintenance of Pharmacy registration.
  • Ensure activities meet with and integrate with organisational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care.
  • To provide an advisory service on pharmaceutical matters both internally and externally to patients and customers.
  • To ensure advice is provided to patients only in accordance with protocols and pharmacist guidance.
  • To provide excellent customer service to both prescription and retail customers.
  • To accurately take payments from customers.
  • To perform cashing up duties accurately.
  • To perform duties in compliance with specific service contracts.
  • To participate in rota for working on Bank Holidays as and when necessary.
  • To ensure that safe systems of work are practiced with due regard to Health and Safety, COSHH Regulations, Guide to Good Distribution Practice and National Pharmaceutical Standards.
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties defined by the Pharmacy Manager within the overall function, commensurate with the grading and level of responsibility of the job.

Experience:

  • UK Registered & Qualified Pharmacist with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
